MCKENZIE COUNTY, North Dakota—The McKenzie County Board of Commissioners voted May 16th to appoint deputy auditor, Erica Johnsrud, to the McKenzie County Auditor/ Treasurer position.  Auditor Linda Svihovec announced her retirement in December, after serving for five years as Deputy Treasurer, 15 years as the elected Treasurer, and six years as the elected Auditor.

 
Chairman Douglas Nordby commented, “Erica has unmatched qualifications to step up and fill this position. After serving as Deputy County Auditor for the past three years, she has the knowledge and day-to-day experience this position needs to make this transition a smooth and seamless one. Our goals as a County are to provide transparency, accountability and the best service we can to our residents and business owners. Erica certainly strengthens our ability to fulfill those objectives." 

“The position of Auditor/ Treasurer is one that requires critical attention to vital details.  Erica will be responsible for making recommendations regarding improving the financial position of the County, and has the fiscal responsibility for the payroll, budgets, accounting and annual property tax statements. She will ensure that the actions taken by the Commissioners are in compliance with the North Dakota Century Code also. A critical assignment she must carry out is elections. It is extremely important that our elections are accurate and fair, where the citizen’s right to vote is protected and cherished. Erica has run elections the past few cycles, and this experience was a top consideration for us. Overall, we are pleased to have someone with Erica’s experience, judgement, and progression leading the Auditor/ Treasurer’s office.”

Ms. Johnsrud has a BA in Biology from the University of Jamestown, ND. She obtained her Doctorate (PhD) from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Cell Biology. She currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for the North Dakota County Auditor’s Association, and is a member of Rural Leadership North Dakota.
